Responsibilities Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing teeth to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental imaging equipment, ensuring accurate positioning and patient safety. Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans. Assist dentists during procedures through chairside assisting, ensuring all necessary tools and materials are prepared and sterilized according to infection prevention standards. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health. Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems) by documenting treatment details, medical terminology, and patient interactions in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Follow infection control protocols using aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination and ensure a safe clinical environment. Requirements Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current certification to perform dental procedures. Proven experience in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry settings, with familiarity in pediatric dentistry preferred. Proficiency in dental software for charting, documentation review, and medical records management. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and dental equipment operation. Experience with four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize efficiency during patient care. Ability to accurately interpret dental X-ray images and perform basic medical assessments including vital signs measurement. Excellent communication skills for client interaction, patient education, and team collaboration while maintaining HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
