Job Description

The Dental Hygienist works together with dentists to meet all oral health needs of the patients of NSO. The primary duties of the Dental Hygienist include cleaning and polishing teeth, instructing patients in good oral hygiene habits and aftercare for dental treatments rendered, and providing other preventative dental care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Patient screening procedures, such as assessment of oral health conditions, review of the health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck inspection, dental charting, and taking blood pressure and pulse. Removing calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth, under the supervision of a dentist. Taking digital radiographs using snap-a-ray positioners (x-rays) Applying preventive materials to the teeth (e.g., sealants and fluorides) Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health; (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling) Counseling patients about good nutrition and its impact on oral health Provides chair-side assistance to the dentist in the performance of periodontal procedures, tests, and complex treatments. Documents the dental history and chief complaint, if any, and reports pertinent observations and patient reactions to dentist and dental team as appropriate; documents lab procedures and ensures follow-up on results. Perform documentation and office management activities as needed, such as preparation of reports Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during the treatment of patients Assists in the preparation of patient care areas, and in the patient admission, transfer, and discharge process as required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Associate or bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene Current license as a dental hygienist in the state of Oklahoma Administration of local anesthesia expanded function preferred Administration of Nitrous Oxide expanded function preferred Must possess a valid Healthcare provider CPR certification. 1-3 years' experience preferred Clearance of background check and drug screen. This is a Safety Sensitive Position and therefore is not subject to the protections of the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act.

Requires clear, oral, and written communication Requires patience when assisting the population served. Requires the ability to work independently as well as with a team. Includes exposure to contaminants, radiation, and disease or infections. Knowledge of Eaglesoft software preferred
