Position Summary The Dental Assisting Instructor provides high-quality, hands-on instruction in a technical college setting, preparing students for entry-level employment in dental assisting. The instructor delivers competency-based training in clinical and laboratory dental assisting procedures while ensuring instruction is aligned with state requirements, industry standards, program outcomes, and applicable certification requirements. Key Responsibilities Instruct students in dental assisting procedures, including chairside assisting, infection control, dental radiography, dental materials, instrument identification and sterilization, patient preparation, dental terminology, and related clinical procedures. Provide hands-on laboratory and simulated clinical instruction and supervise students during practical activities to ensure proper techniques, safety, and infection-control practices. Develop and deliver lesson plans aligned with program outcomes, state curriculum frameworks, accreditation standards, and dental industry requirements. Prepare students for applicable industry certifications and employment as dental assistants. Assess student performance through written examinations, laboratory competencies, practical demonstrations, and other appropriate evaluation methods. Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, competencies, and student progress. Promote professionalism, employability skills, workplace safety, and job readiness. Collaborate with faculty, administration, employers, and advisory committee members to ensure that instruction remains relevant to current dental industry practices. Required Credentials and Work Experience Applicants must meet one of the following qualification pathways: Option 1 - Licensed Dental Hygienist Must be licensed as a Dental Hygienist in Florida by the Florida Department of Health, Board of Dentistry, OR Must be certified as a Dental Assistant (CDA) by the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc. (DANB), OR Must hold a degree in dentistry from an accredited dental school. AND Must have a minimum of two years of full-time occupational experience, or the equivalent in part-time experience, as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), a licensed Dental Hygienist, or a Dentist. OR Option 2 - Occupational Experience Must have a minimum of three years of full-time occupational experience, or the equivalent in part-time experience, as a Dental Assistant.

Candidates should possess strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and instructional skills and demonstrate the ability to effectively teach both classroom theory and hands-on dental assisting competencies. Work Environment Classroom, dental laboratory, and simulated clinical settings within Miami Lakes Educational Center and Technical College. The position involves direct supervision of students performing hands-on dental assisting procedures and requires adherence to applicable safety, infection-control, and regulatory standards.
