GED Certified Surgical Technologist Full Job Description Position Summary:
The Surgical Scrub Technician plays a critical role in supporting safe and efficient pediatric dental surgical procedures under general anesthesia. This position is responsible for preparing and maintaining the sterile field, ensuring all surgical instruments and supplies are available and functioning properly, and anticipating the needs of the dental surgeon during procedures. The ideal candidate is highly organized, calm under pressure, and experienced in working in an ambulatory surgical setting—preferably with pediatric patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Operative Duties:
Prepare the OR with appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment for pediatric dental procedures. Perform sterile scrub techniques and don sterile attire in accordance with infection control protocols. Ensure all instruments are sterile, functioning, and ready for use.
Intraoperative Support:
Assist the dental surgeon and anesthesia team by passing instruments, handling surgical materials, and anticipating procedural needs. Maintain the integrity of the sterile field throughout the procedure. Handle specimens appropriately and ensure proper labeling and documentation.
Post-Operative Duties:
Assist in the breakdown of the surgical suite, including decontaminating instruments and surfaces. Prepare instruments for sterilization following proper chain-of-custody and protocol. Restock supplies and communicate equipment or inventory needs to the OR manager.
Compliance & Safety:
Adhere to all OSHA, CDC, and facility-specific infection control standards. Participate in ongoing quality improvement and safety initiatives. Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or breaches in protocol to appropriate leadership.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program preferred.
Certification:
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred but not required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of scrub tech experience in a surgical setting. Pediatric or dental surgery experience highly preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation. Excellent attention to detail and ability to anticipate surgical team needs. Comfort working with pediatric patients and their families in a fast-paced environment.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move patients or equipment as needed (up to 50 lbs). Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, anesthetic gases, and medical waste. Must be able to work flexible hours, including early mornings, depending on case schedules. Why Join Us?
