Consolidated Tribal Health Project, Inc. is a rural community health clinic that was incorporated as a 501 ( c )(3) in 1984 to address the disparity in health care among Native American people living in Mendocino County. 3/13/19 Job Summary This position provides general dental services to individuals and families, and should be an active, enthusiastic participant in helping CTHP to realize its mission to provide the highest possible level of health care services Job Duties & Responsibilities Provides comprehensive public health oriented dental services (consistent with the Department scope of work) to eligible persons to include: diagnostic, consultation/referral, emergency, preventive, restorative (operative), endodontic, prosthetic (to include fixed and removable), periodontics, orthodontic (limited), and oral surgery services. Assists supervisor, as directed, in all reporting and evaluation requirements. Ensures compliance with IHS; provide supervision to Dental Staff when needed. Provides in-service training to staff as needed. Participates in specialty clinics with other members of the health team (e.g., health fairs, preventive presentations at Rancheria, schools and camps); and works collaboratively with other members in planning to meet the health needs and compliance of patients. Attends and participates in staff meetings, assist and work with the supervisor and department managers in maintaining communication relative to overall operation of the clinic. Participates in inter-departmental activities as necessary to maintain/promote high clinic morale, and thus ensures an effective organization. Assists supervisor in areas of patient communications and reception area support as appropriate (e.g., proper appointment timing, chart maintenance, protocols). Assures that the clinic practices state-of-the-art prevention and treatment methods, and scrupulously complies with recommended and mandated health-provider regulations/guidelines. Contributes to the overall improvement of CTHP services and assures the highest quality standards for patient services. Participates in appropriate continuing education opportunities, shares information/findings, and institute methods, practices and protocols, as appropriate. Represents the highest standards of the dental profession and manifests appropriate caregiver demeanor. Strives to promote CTHP's image and standing in the larger community. May oversee department operations in the absence of the Dental Director. Acts as a role model for, and provides information and encouragement to, those members of the CTHP patient community who may aspire to work in healthcare careers. Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience) D.D.S. degree from an accredited university. Current California Dental License. Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration. Direct patient dental care experience. Proof of valid driver license, with a clean driving record. Current CPR/BLS certification. Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience) Five (5) years of direct patient dental care experience. Indian Preference applies to all Consolidated Tribal Health Project (CTHP) positions in accordance with CTHP Policy and applicable federal law. Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Maintains knowledge of dental industry and trends, health promotion, and patient services. Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Tribal culture and lifestyle, working effectively with American Indian/Alaska Native populations. Effective oral and written communications skills with sensitivity to lifestyles of targeted participants. Skills in operating personal computer using a variety of computer software. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all applicable federal and tribal privacy laws, as well as CTHP policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.). Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures. Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently as well as with teams. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. The noise level in the work environment is usually average. Conditions of Hire In accordance with CTHP policy, all employment at CTHP is "at will" and based on mutual consent. This means that the employee or CTHP may terminate employment at any time and for any reason with or without notice. No term of employment is expressed or implied for this "at-will" position. May be required to possess and maintain a valid driver license or capable of obtaining one; as well as be insurable by CTHP's company insurance. CTHP complies with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, whereby employees shall not manufacture, distribute, dispense, possess, use, or be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and must pass a pre-employment and subsequent random drug and alcohol screening to be eligible for and maintain employment. Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Protection Act (ICPA); all employment offers in the "covered" classification are conditional until CTHP has received a Federal criminal background check verifying eligibility to work in these programs. Due to providing healthcare services, employees are subject to an annual TB screen and flu shot, should an employee opt to not take the flu shot they will be required to wear a face mask during flu season.
