Job Description

General Dentist - Sumter, South Carolina Position Overview This is an established, community-based private dental practice seeking an experienced Associate General Dentist in Sumter, South Carolina , approximately one hour from Columbia. This is a growth position rather than a replacement. The practice is adding a second dentist to support increasing patient demand and new-patient volume. The incoming associate will work alongside an experienced owner-dentist in a modern, well-supported clinical environment. Practice Highlights Established legacy practice with a strong reputation in the Sumter community Nine fully equipped operatories Two to three operatories available for the incoming dentist Approximately 40-50 new patients per month Primarily adult patient population Experienced clinical and administrative support staff Lab fees covered by the practice No ownership, management, or administrative responsibilities required Located near a major Air Force base, with an established military, VA, and insured patient population Technology includes: Digital radiography Panoramic imaging CBCT Intraoral scanners CAD/CAM and same-day crown technology Implant systems Endodontic equipment Laser technology Sedation equipment Open Dental practice-management software The support team currently includes a hygienist, three dental assistants, an office manager, and two front-office team members who manage scheduling, insurance, billing, and patient check-in. Clinical Responsibilities The associate will provide comprehensive general dentistry, including: Crowns, fillings, and restorative dentistry Removable prosthodontics Simple and surgical extractions Limited endodontic treatment Hygiene examinations Treatment planning and case presentation Implant placement based on experience and clinical interest Sedation dentistry based on training and qualifications Approximately 80% of the current procedure mix consists of bread-and-butter general dentistry. Molar endodontics is generally referred out. The incoming dentist will receive the majority of new-patient opportunities and build a schedule within an established and active practice.
Schedule Preferred schedule:
Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. A three-day workweek may be considered No evenings No weekends No call responsibilities Compensation Tiered incentive structure percentage of net collections Negotiable daily guarantee during the initial ramp-up period Lab fees paid by the practice Up to $3,000 total in sign-on or relocation assistance $3,000 annual flexible professional stipend towards benefits or CE The annual stipend may be applied toward: Continuing education Professional licenses and dues Professional subscriptions Individual health insurance Retirement contributions Qualifications DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school Licensed or eligible for dental licensure in South Carolina New dental-school graduates must have completed a GPR or AEGD program Comfortable managing a productive patient schedule with limited ramp-up time Ability to practice independently while collaborating with the clinical team Implant and sedation experience is beneficial but not required Visa sponsorship is not available The ideal candidate is clinically confident, patient-focused, dependable, and interested in a long-term associate position without ownership or management expectations. Community Sumter offers a lower cost of living and a community-oriented environment while remaining approximately one hour from Columbia. The area has a significant military-family presence and provides convenient access to regional recreation, shopping, dining, and larger metropolitan amenities.
