Duties & Responsibilities:
Dietary Helper Job Summary The Dietary Helper performs a variety of kitchen duties as assigned. Assigned areas may be in patient food service, cafeteria food service or in dishwashing. Duties Assembles prepared foods for regular or modified diet trays Delivers trays to serving area or Nursing Stations Prepares simple salads or desserts Prepares between-meal nourishment for patients Works on trayline to assist in patient tray set-up Operates a dishwasher Performs general cleaning duties in the Dietary Department Will perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Work Experience is desired but not required High school graduate or equivalent preferred Must have good communication skills Diet Aide Job Summary The Diet Aide is responsible for processing all diet orders. The Diet Aide also receives diet orders and messages from the IBM Computer Terminal. The Diet Aide is supervised by the Director of Dietary Services, Clinical Dietitian or Diet Technician. The Diet Aide is an advisor to Cooks, Baker and Salad Maker regarding therapeutic diets. The Diet Aide does not work in a supervisory capacity over other workers. Also has interaction with unit clerks and nursing staff on a regular basis regarding patient meal service. Duties Processes all diet orders Responds to telephone calls at Diet Aide station from nursing units and other areas of the hospital Prepares Food Production Sheets Checks tray-line Fills out select menus Orders menus/orders production sheets Modifies select menus according to diet restrictions Covers call-in schedule in absence of the Director and/or Food Production Manager Accurately records all illnesses on communicable disease log Receives regularly scheduled in-service education Any other duties as assigned Qualification High school diploma or equivalent with courses in nutrition and a junior college course in diet therapy preferred One year experience in an acute care facility No technical or vocational certification needed Good telephone skills and pleasant demeanor Must be willing to be directed and trained

Lifting Requirements:
Medium - Generally lifting not more than 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Standing requirements are from 7 to 8 hours per day. Walking and standing are required to a significant degree.
