Position Summary:
The Director of Food Service provides nourishing, palatable, well-balanced meals that meet the nutritional and special dietary needs of each resident according to their comprehensive assessment and care plan. Responsibilities include supervising staff in preparing attractive, nutritionally adequate meals served at proper temperatures and times, in accordance with facility policies, state and federal regulations, and accepted nutritional standards. The role also includes ensuring proper care and sanitation of food service equipment and work areas. In collaboration with the dietician, the Food Service Director allocates department resources efficiently to ensure each resident receives food in the appropriate amount, type, consistency, and frequency to maintain usual body weight and nutritional status. ___________________________________________________________________ Minimum Qualification Standards Education High school diploma or equivalent Successful completion or current enrollment in a course approved by the American Dietetic Association License CDM ServSafe certification Experience One year of institutional food service experience, including planning, preparing, and serving regular and therapeutic diets in a healthcare setting Supervisory experience preferred ___________________________________________________________________ Performance Requirements Knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform essential job functions Ability to apply current knowledge, good judgment, and common sense Strong prioritization and interpersonal communication skills Effective communication with residents, staff, families, interdisciplinary team members, state surveyors, ombudsmen, and other officials ___________________________________________________________________ Physical, Psychological, and Ergonomic Requirements This position involves working in a 24-hour residential care environment serving primarily disabled and cognitively impaired residents (average age: 78). Stressors may include shift rotation, weekend/holiday duty, resident behaviors, family concerns, end-of-life situations, state surveys, consultant presence, and variable medical staff involvement. Duties require mobility throughout the building and may involve stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying. #WH
