Job Description
Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Dietary Aide to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to providing excellent food service and supporting the nutritional needs of residents, patients, or clients in various care settings. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where attention to detail, safety, and customer service are paramount. The Dietary Aide will play a vital role in meal preparation, food handling, sanitation, and ensuring compliance with all safety and dietary standards. Responsibilities Assist in preparing and serving nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary requirements, including special diets for geriatric or medically compromised patients. Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently while adhering to sanitation and food safety protocols. Support food production activities, including meal assembly, plating, and portioning to ensure timely delivery of meals. Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, dining areas, and food storage spaces in accordance with health regulations. Handle manual tasks such as heavy lifting and safe lifting practices during food stocking, cleaning, or equipment use. Follow proper food handling procedures to prevent contamination and ensure food safety throughout all stages of meal service. Assist with bussing tables, cleaning dishes, and sanitation duties to uphold a hygienic environment for residents or patients. Collaborate with nursing staff and dietary team members to meet the nutritional needs of individuals while respecting their dietary restrictions. Document food temperatures, sanitation checks, and other safety measures as required by workplace safety policies. Qualifications Previous experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or the food industry is highly desirable. Knowledge of food production, preparation techniques, and sanitation standards such as JCAHO guidelines. Familiarity with operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively during busy meal periods. Basic math skills for portion control and inventory management purposes. Excellent customer service skills with a compassionate approach when working with geriatric or vulnerable populations. Experience with dietary department procedures including adhering to dietary requirements and nutrition guidelines. Certification in CPR and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is preferred but not mandatory; training can be provided if necessary. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining workplace safety standards.
