As a Dietary Aide, you play an essential role in creating a positive dining experience for our residents by preparing, serving, and delivering nutritious meals with compassion, dignity, and respect. Working closely with the Dietary Manager, Registered Dietitian, Cook, nursing staff, and other interdisciplinary team members, the Dietary Aide helps ensure meals are prepared and served safely, accurately, and in accordance with physician orders, resident preferences, and federal and state regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Resident Care & Customer Service Treat every resident with dignity, kindness, and respect. Assist in providing a pleasant, welcoming dining experience. Serve meals according to physician-ordered diets and individual preferences. Encourage resident independence while providing assistance as appropriate. Report changes in resident appetite, eating habits, or concerns to nursing staff. Maintain resident confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Meal Preparation & Service Prepare food items according to recipes and standardized procedures. Assemble meal trays accurately according to therapeutic diet orders. Deliver meals and snacks promptly while maintaining proper food temperatures. Assist with beverage preparation and nourishment programs. Serve meals in dining rooms and resident rooms as assigned. Portion food according to established guidelines. Kitchen Operations Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment. Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, dining rooms, carts, and equipment. Stock supplies and rotate inventory using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) practices. Dispose of waste properly and maintain a clean, organized work environment. Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries. Food Safety & Infection Control Follow all food safety, sanitation, and infection prevention policies. Maintain proper hand hygiene and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Monitor and document food temperatures as assigned. Prevent cross-contamination and follow safe food handling procedures. Report equipment malfunctions or safety hazards immediately. Regulatory Compliance Comply with all federal, state, OSHA, CMS, and facility regulations. Follow therapeutic diet instructions and modified texture requirements. Complete assigned in-service education and required training. Maintain accurate documentation when required. Teamwork Work collaboratively with dietary, nursing, therapy, and housekeeping departments. Assist coworkers during busy meal periods. Demonstrate flexibility in assignments to meet resident needs. Maintain a positive, professional attitude with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers. QualificationsEducation High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Food Handler certification (or ability to obtain if required by state or local regulations). Experience Previous food service experience preferred. Experience in healthcare or long-term care is beneficial but not required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Excellent customer service skills Strong attention to detail Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation principles Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment Dependable and punctual Strong teamwork and communication skills Compassion for older adults and individuals with disabilities Working Conditions Commercial kitchen environment. Exposure to hot equipment, cleaning chemicals, and wet floors. Frequent interaction with residents, families, visitors, and staff. Weekend, holiday, and evening shifts may be required.
