Balanced Life Nutrition, LLC is seeking an experienced Consultant Dietitian (RD/LD) to provide nutrition services to long-term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and assisted living facilities in the Kansas City metro area. This position is ideal for a dietitian who enjoys working independently and values building strong relationships with facility leadership and interdisciplinary teams. The consultant dietitian will provide clinical nutrition services while also supporting dietary operations, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement. Responsibilities Complete comprehensive nutrition assessments, MDS-related nutrition documentation, care plans, progress notes, and other required clinical documentation. Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and individualized nutrition interventions for residents with a variety of medical conditions and nutritional needs. Monitor residents for changes in nutritional status, weight trends, wounds, intake, hydration, and other nutrition-related concerns. Make appropriate recommendations for therapeutic diets, supplements, texture modifications, and nutrition support, including enteral nutrition when indicated. Collaborate with nursing, physicians, therapy, dietary staff, and facility leadership to provide coordinated resident care. Participate in care conferences and communicate nutrition-related recommendations and concerns to the interdisciplinary team. Review menus for nutritional adequacy, therapeutic diet needs, texture modifications, and regulatory compliance. Provide oversight and consultation related to foodservice operations, including kitchen practices, sanitation, food safety, and dietary procedures. Conduct routine dietary department and kitchen inspections and provide recommendations for improvement. Assist facilities with regulatory compliance, survey preparation, and quality improvement initiatives related to nutrition and foodservice. Provide staff education and in-services on nutrition, therapeutic diets, food safety, sanitation, and other relevant topics. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements. Communicate professionally with facility administrators, directors of nursing, dietary managers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Manage an independent consulting schedule and complete assigned services within established timeframes. Qualifications Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential required. Licensed Dietitian (LD) in Kansas and/or Missouri, as applicable. Experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or assisted living preferred. Strong knowledge of geriatric nutrition and the nutritional needs of older adults. Knowledge of CMS, state, and long-term care regulatory requirements related to nutrition and foodservice. Experience with nutrition assessments, care plans, weight management, wound healing nutrition, therapeutic diets, and nutrition support. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and manage multiple facility accounts. Comfortable collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and providing recommendations to facility staff. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between facilities within the Kansas City metro area.
