JOB DESCRIPTION
The primary function of the dietitian is to provide nutrition care, counseling and education to patients. Works with patients who are receiving treatment in multiple areas including medical/surgical, rehabilitation, long-term care, oncology, critical care, and cardiac rehabilitation. Also provides education in diabetes management and maternal and child nutrition/public health. Dietitians provide in-patient care and out-patient counseling at the medical center and its facilities and participate in public speaking, seminars and group classes. Dietitians also serve as advisors in menu planning, patient meal plans, social service and educational settings.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree required. Master's Degree preferred. Training in counseling, motivational interviewing, educational and/or public speaking desired.
EXPERIENCE
One-year recent experience in acute care and/or ambulatory setting required. Experienced in diabetes and weight management care preferred.
LICENSURE/CREDENTIALS
Registered dietitian required. Certifications such as Certified Diabetes Educator, Medical Nutrition Therapy or Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) preferred. Washington State Certified Dietitian or eligibility required. American Dietetic Association member preferred. Must acquire Washington State Food Handler's License within 60 days of employment.
