Job Description

An Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) manages the nursing department in a healthcare institution, such as a hospital or long-term care facility. Their responsibilities include leadership and direction to the nursing department to ensure quality patient care. This includes effective leadership in managing resources, such as clinical practice supervision, human resources, financial planning, and budget management. Be able to develop and implement clinical policies and procedures, and recommend changes to nursing practices and policies based on evidence. Help hire and train staff, create schedules, and conduct employee evaluations. Assist with patient management and provide direct nursing care as needed. Implement infection prevention principles, manage the facility wound program, and maintain knowledge of regulations.
