Overview We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our nursing team at a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive nursing experience in settings such as assisted living, nursing homes, home health, hospice care, or acute care, and a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulations including HIPAA and Medicare. This leadership role involves overseeing clinical operations, ensuring high-quality resident care, managing staff, and maintaining compliance with all regulatory standards. The DNS will be instrumental in fostering a collaborative environment focused on resident well-being and staff development. Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership and oversight of nursing services within the SNF to ensure the delivery of exceptional resident care. Supervise and manage nursing staff, including nurse management and shift management, fostering a positive and compliant work environment. Develop, review, and update care plans tailored to residents' needs, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations such as Medicare requirements. Oversee documentation review, medical records management, and ensure accurate and timely data entry within EMR/EHR systems. Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to facilitate resident assessments like MDS (Minimum Data Set) evaluations and ensure accurate coding for reimbursement purposes. Ensure adherence to HIPAA regulations to protect resident privacy and confidentiality. Monitor clinical performance metrics and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance care standards. Maintain knowledge of physiology and anatomy to support clinical decision-making and staff training. Lead efforts in staff education on medical terminology, documentation standards, and regulatory compliance. Manage incident reports, investigations, and corrective actions related to resident safety or staff performance. Stay current with healthcare policies affecting nursing practice, including shifts in Medicare guidelines and other reimbursement models. Qualifications Valid RN license with current state licensure required; Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher preferred. Extensive experience in nursing home administration or management within assisted living, home health, hospice care, or acute care settings. Proven supervisory experience with strong leadership skills in managing multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems for documentation review and medical records management. Familiarity with Medicare regulations, MDS processes, HIPAA compliance, and healthcare documentation standards. Strong understanding of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and care planning processes. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage shift operations effectively. Demonstrated ability to lead change initiatives and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Exceptional communication skills for collaboration with staff, residents, families, and regulatory agencies.
