[Insert Schedule] Position Summary The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing in providing effective clinical leadership and ensuring high-quality, safe, and compliant resident care. The ADON will oversee and assist with infection prevention, wound care, MDS coordination, staff competencies, clinical audits, physician orders, and other nursing operations. The ideal candidate is a strong clinical leader who is organized, detail-oriented, knowledgeable about regulatory requirements, and committed to promoting quality outcomes and person-centered care. Essential Responsibilities Infection Prevention & Antibiotic Stewardship Support and maintain the facility's Infection Prevention and Control Program. Oversee the Antibiotic Stewardship Program, including maintaining monthly antibiotic-use data, reviewing trends, and identifying and addressing concerns related to antibiotic utilization. Review residents who are started on antibiotics to ensure appropriate use and that required clinical documentation, monitoring, vital signs, administration, and follow-up are completed. Monitor compliance with tuberculosis (TB) screening and related requirements for residents and staff. Identify infection-control concerns and collaborate with nursing leadership and staff to implement corrective actions. Wound Care & Skin Integrity Complete weekly skin assessments on all residents and identify residents at risk for pressure injuries. Implement appropriate preventive interventions for residents identified as being at risk for pressure ulcers and ensure interventions are reflected in the resident's care plan. Monitor residents with existing pressure ulcers and ensure appropriate treatment and documentation are completed. Ensure documentation for pressure ulcers includes: The stage of each pressure ulcer as identified by the wound care consultant. Current assessment and condition of the wound. Confirmation that ordered treatments are being followed. Review wound care consultant notes and ensure recommendations and updates are accurately entered into PointClickCare. Identify and correct discrepancies or incomplete documentation related to wound care. Update care plans as needed based on changes in skin condition and wound status. Collaborate with nursing staff and wound care providers to promote positive wound-healing and prevention outcomes. MDS & Care Planning Complete required weekly assessments in accordance with the schedule and recommendations established by the facility's MDS consultant. Ensure assessments are accurate, complete, and submitted within required timeframes. Communicate significant assessment findings to the appropriate members of the interdisciplinary team. Update resident care plans as needed based on assessment findings, changes in condition, and resident needs. Attend and actively participate in resident care plan meetings. Collaborate with nursing staff, MDS personnel, therapy, dietary, social services, and other disciplines to support comprehensive resident care. Staff Competency & Education Complete required nursing staff competencies for Nurses, CNAs, and CMAs upon hire, annually, and as needed. Identify competency or performance gaps and provide or coordinate additional education and training. Maintain accurate documentation of completed competencies. Support ongoing staff development and compliance with facility policies and clinical standards. Physician Orders & Clinical Communication Ensure physician/provider orders are appropriately processed, communicated, and followed. Manage and monitor faxes related to physician orders and other clinical documentation. Ensure orders are communicated to the appropriate departments and accurately reflected in the resident's medical record. Follow up on outstanding orders and address discrepancies or missing documentation. Clinical Audits & Quality Assurance Complete and/or assist with weekly, monthly, and quarterly clinical audits. Review audit findings to identify trends, areas of concern, and opportunities for improvement. Assist with development and implementation of corrective actions when indicated. Monitor compliance with clinical standards, facility policies, and applicable regulatory requirements. Report significant findings and quality concerns to the DON and assist with follow-up. Nursing Leadership & Resident Care Assist the Director of Nursing with the daily operation and clinical oversight of the nursing department. Provide clinical guidance and support to nursing staff. Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and resident-centered care. Assist with staffing needs and provide nursing coverage as needed to ensure continuity and quality of resident care. Cover nursing shifts when necessary based on facility needs. Respond appropriately to changes in resident condition and escalate concerns to the DON and/or appropriate provider. Assist the DON with other clinical and operational responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Current, unrestricted nursing license as required by the state in which the facility operates. Prior nursing experience in a skilled nursing, long-term care, or senior living setting preferred. Previous leadership, charge nurse, supervisory, infection prevention, wound care, or MDS experience preferred. Strong knowledge of infection prevention, wound management, clinical documentation, and long-term care practices. Ability to understand and apply applicable federal, state, and facility requirements. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with residents, families, nursing staff, providers, consultants, and interdisciplinary team members. Proficiency with electronic medical records; PointClickCare experience preferred.
