Manages communications with physicians, manages budgets and expenses, and assists other administrators with managing operations. Monitors staff schedules and the quality of nursing care at the facility. Maintains professional license or certification requirements.
Interim Director of Nursing (DON) We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to serve as Interim Director of Nursing at a skilled nursing facility. This position provides temporary leadership and oversight of the nursing department while supporting high-quality resident care, staff development, regulatory compliance, and daily clinical operations. The ideal candidate is a confident and organized nursing leader who can quickly assess facility needs, support the nursing team, strengthen clinical systems, and maintain survey readiness.
Responsibilities:
Direct and oversee the facility's nursing services and daily clinical operations. Promote safe, resident-centered care in accordance with professional standards, facility policies, and applicable regulations. Supervise and support RNs, LPNs, CMAs, CNAs, and other nursing personnel. Monitor staffing levels, assignments, competencies, attendance, and overall staff performance. Review resident assessments, care plans, physician orders, clinical documentation, and changes in condition. Monitor falls, wounds, infections, hospitalizations, medication errors, weight loss, and other clinical concerns. Participate in investigations, incident review, corrective actions, and required reporting. Maintain survey readiness and assist with plans of correction when needed. Lead clinical meetings, nursing rounds, audits, staff education, and quality improvement activities. Collaborate with the Administrator, Medical Director, MDS team, therapy, pharmacy, dietary, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, coaching, and retaining nursing employees. Support the transition and orientation of the permanent Director of Nursing.
Qualifications:
Current and unencumbered Registered Nurse license. Previous nursing leadership experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting. Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing experience preferred. Knowledge of long-term care regulations, survey processes, clinical documentation, care planning, infection prevention, and quality improvement. Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage competing priorities and provide effective leadership during periods of transition. Current CPR certification or ability to obtain certification as required. This is an interim assignment.
