  • Health Services Job Classification Title Nurse Director III (NS) Position Number 60064458 Grade MH23 About Us The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees.
It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work The Director of Nursing provides statewide leadership for all nursing services, overseeing strategic planning, staffing, education, compliance, quality improvement, and policy development. The role directs nursing operations across all facilities, manages nursing leadership teams, ensures staff competency, and drives initiatives that improve patient care, communication, and operational efficiency.
Key Duties Include:
  • Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of the statewide Nursing Strategic Plan.
  • Establishes staffing standards, oversees recruitment and retention, and ensures appropriate staffing levels across all facilities.
  • Directs nursing education, competency programs, and ongoing staff development to ensure qualified and skilled nursing personnel.
  • Oversees quality assurance, performance improvement initiatives, and compliance with nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Develops and maintains nursing policies, procedures, and clinical protocols while facilitating communication across nursing and Health Services leadership teams.

Health Services (HS) delivers health services to individuals incarcerated in North Carolina state prisons. Our mission is to provide constitutionally appropriate medical, mental health, dental, and pharmaceutical care that meets professional standards. HS health professionals ensure access to timely, essential, and comprehensive services and programs that support the well being of incarcerated individuals. This care is delivered by licensed staff and through partnerships with private providers and the University of North Carolina system.
