Job Summary The EEG Technologist performs neurodiagnostic testing including routine and complex electroencephalograms (EEGs), evoked potentials, and related procedures. The technologist ensures the accurate and timely acquisition of high-quality neurodiagnostic data to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of neurological disorders. Works collaboratively with the care team to maintain optimal standards of patient care, safety, and customer service. Essential Functions Performs standard and complex EEGs, evoked response tests, and other neurodiagnostic procedures Prepares, calibrates, and operates neurodiagnostic equipment Scores, processes, and archives recordings for physician interpretation Maintains accurate records, charges, reports, and patient documentation Ensures proper function and cleanliness of all diagnostic equipment; reports malfunctions promptly Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in scheduling, patient care, and diagnostics Participates in quality assurance and safety initiatives for the neurodiagnostic lab Demonstrates competency in recognizing normal and abnormal waveforms Assists in orientation and training of new staff or students as needed Practices infection control and safety protocols at all times Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations Knowledge of 10-20 EEG system of electrode placement Strong understanding of neuroanatomy and central nervous system disorders Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients and clinical staff Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities under minimal supervision Ability to lift equipment and assist patients during procedures Maintains professionalism and demonstrates integrity in all patient and team interactions Adheres to HIPAA and all regulatory standards relevant to neurodiagnostic services Qualifications Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an accredited EEG program or equivalent on-the-job training preferred. Two years of college coursework in neuroanatomy, physiology, and related sciences preferred. License/Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) through ABRET preferred or required within 1 year of hire. If registered, use
