An EKG Technician assists with specialized tests using an electrocardiogram machine, to monitor the performance of a patient's heart. Works under the direction of a physician or specialist. Explains test procedures to patients, sets up and runs equipment and monitors readings. Provides reports and readings from the test to a physician for analysis.

Position Description
MAJOR FUNCTION
Prepares patients and performs non-invasive electroencephalograms (EEG), sleep deprived studies and other tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders. Edits and prepares tests, Reports findings and concerns to reading physicians. Cleans and maintains all equipment. Demonstrates excellent customer service, telephone and computer skills. Performs EKGs or other duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
HS Diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of a CAAHEP
  • program preferred or must be at least an active student in a CAAHEP
  • program, that must graduate from a CAAHEP
  • Accredited program within 6 months of hire, or complete one of the other educational pathways outlined by ABRET. If currently enrolled in a CAAHEP
  • Accredited program and the employee does not graduate, the employee will be terminated from his/her position.
Hospital training preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
ABRET (The American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) Registered or Registry Eligible preferred. Must Obtain Registry within 1 year of hire.
