EMT Basic Sumter County is Currently Seeking an EMT Basic for Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Compensation:

 Starting at $15.50/hour, with compensation commensurate with experience. Position Summary The EMT Basic provides emergency medical care and basic life support services to individuals experiencing illness or injury. This position responds to emergency and non-emergency calls, assists in patient assessment and treatment, safely transports patients to medical facilities, and helps ensure ambulances and equipment are maintained and ready for service. Working under regular supervision, the EMT Basic serves as an essential member of the EMS team while providing compassionate, professional care in fast-paced and often high-stress environments. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Responds to emergency and non-emergency medical calls, providing basic life support (BLS) and emergency patient care. Assesses patient conditions, obtains medical histories when possible, administers approved treatments, and safely transports patients to appropriate healthcare facilities. Operates ambulances and emergency medical equipment in accordance with established safety procedures and EMS protocols. Maintains communication with dispatch, hospitals, fire departments, law enforcement, and other emergency response agencies. Completes patient care reports, incident documentation, and other required records accurately and timely. Inspects, cleans, inventories, and restocks ambulances, medical supplies, and equipment to ensure operational readiness. Assists with accident scene management, patient extrication, public education activities, and orientation of new personnel as assigned. Participates in continuing education and maintains all required certifications. Performs related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Current South Carolina EMT Basic certification (or eligibility for certification). Five (5) to eleven (11) months of EMS experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Current CPR certification. Valid South Carolina driver's license. Must meet all physical and medical requirements necessary to perform emergency medical duties. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of emergency medical procedures, patient assessment, and basic life support techniques. Knowledge of EMS protocols, infection control practices, and emergency response procedures. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergency situations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, families, healthcare providers, and emergency responders. Ability to accurately complete patient documentation and maintain confidential medical information. Ability to safely operate ambulances, radios, and emergency medical equipment. Ability to work effectively as part of a team while providing compassionate patient care. Physical Requirements Ability to lift, carry, push, and move patients weighing 200 pounds or more with assistance and appropriate equipment. Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, climb, crawl, and perform physically demanding work throughout extended shifts. Ability to safely operate emergency vehicles and medical equipment. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing assigned duties. Work Environment This position requires work in both indoor and outdoor environments under varying weather conditions and emergency situations. Employees routinely respond to medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, traumatic incidents, and other hazardous conditions. Work may require rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency call-back as operational needs require.
