Under the supervision of an RN, assists in all services necessary for the proper operation of the Endoscopy Unit. Performs a variety of tasks related to cleaning, decontamination, assembly, sterilization and distribution of medical/surgical linens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies for the care and treatment of patients. EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran Responsibilities 1. Handles all equipment safely and ensures all equipment is in working order to be used for procedures. Sends all scopes for repairs when needed, follows up on equipment repair. 2. Assist with room turnover and set up for procedures. 3. Cleans and disinfects scopes according to policy and procedures and orients new staff to the scope disinfection process. 4. Notifies Clinical Coordinator or Charge Nurse of equipment defects or damage. 5. Suggest better utilization of supplies and potential savings. 6. Exhibits a high level of time management skills and flexibility in performing daily activities. 7. Performs all other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the unit. 8. Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization and Staff and Self Development as outlined in the performance review. 9. Senior Level Responsible for the collection and correct labeling of specimens. Delivers specimens to the appropriate laboratory in a timely manner. 10. Maintains inventory supplies, orders and restocks supplies, and maintains inventory in the procedure rooms. 11. Under the supervision of an RN or MD, sets up the necessary equipment for and assists in the following procedures: Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Bronchoscopy, ERCP 12. Inspects and assembles instruments and related supplies in specialty, medical-surgical procedure trays. 13. Inventories supply/exchange carts and resuscitation carts, checking equipment function, replenishing stock, replacing outdated supplies, and accurately documenting required data. 14. Performs terminal sterilization by required method of steam/ethylene oxide/gas plasma/dry heat, following established procedures. Demonstrates basic operational knowledge of equipment function; identifies and/or corrects malfunctions. 15. Performs required test cycles and biological monitoring of sterilizers and designated equipment and accurately interprets and documents results as required. 16. Performs individualized cleaning/decontamination procedures on specialized surgical instruments and equipment; identifies items requiring special handling and initiates appropriate procedures. 17. Assembles surgical case carts, ensuring availability of supplies according to established schedules, and for emergency and/or added cases as required; selects and prints appropriate pick sheets for specific procedures and surgeons, as needed. 18. Inspects and assembles surgical instrumentation and equipment, ensuring accuracy, cleanliness and proper function; correctly packages and labels each item, and documents missing items. 19. Responds appropriately to all requests from patient care areas; demonstrates good independent judgement in critical situations. 20. Enters patient/department charges/credits in main hospital computer system, monitoring for accuracy and documenting issues/locations. Answers phone calls; responds appropriately to all requests. EDUCATION
High School Graduate Or Equivalent
EXPERIENCE
Two years related experience as a PCA and/or prior CS experience preferred.
LICENSURE CS
certification by an approved agency required within two years of hire if hired on or after 1/1/16. Employees hired prior to 1/1/16, certification is required by 1/1/18. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. BLS Required.
