KU MedWest Ambulatory Surgery Center, GI Position reports to: OR Manager Position supervises: noneInterpersonal Relationships:

none required Education, vocational training, and experience: High School Graduate or equivalent Prior experience as a GI Tech preferred Successful completion of BLS course within 90 days of employment, or documentation of current BLS certification.Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Function as an assistive person during endoscopy procedures by: a. Protecting the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, mechanical, and thermal sources. b. Demonstrating safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation. c. Speaking up with safety concerns acting as the patient's advocate d. Handling specimens according to facility policy and procedures. e. Adhering to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment f. Performing interventions to maintain the patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels g. Performing interventions to protect the patient from infection h. Protecting the patient's rights, dignity, and privacy i. Providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice. j. Complying with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy k. Assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure. l. Preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure. m. Providing instruments and supplies to the endoscopist during the procedure. n. Maintaining an organized sterile field. 2. Evaluate the patient's progress toward attaining outcomes 3. Provide hand-off report to other teammates that are accurate, concise and pertinent to the patient's condition and response to care. 4. Maintain endoscopy instruments and accessories in working order. Troubleshoots and recognizes malfunctions 5. Clean and prepare equipment and instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas. 6. Ensure scopes are prepared for use in accordance with policies and procedures and manufacturer's instructions for use 7. Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the team and other stakeholders. 8. Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning patient care. 9. Assist with post procedure cleaning of the procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients. 10. Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects. 11. Participate in the performance appraisal process. 12. Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships. 13. Maintain required competencies. 14. Pursue professional growth 15. Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information. 16. Actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and daily safety huddles. 17. Demonstrate fiscal responsibility. 18. Perform other duties as assignedWorking Conditions/Physical Requirements:
