Job Description

Interested in maintaining/improving a disabled client's mobility, quality of life, and physical strength? Join our family's team of caregivers and therapists by facilitating in-home exercise routines for a middle-aged male client in this part-time Exercise & Support Specialist position ( which includes some care providing tasks along with P.T., O.T., Speech, etc. exercises) and provides an opportunity to learn helpful hands-on techniques for helping others in need of personalized physical and cognitive training.
Responsibilities:
Facilitate various established exercise routines with the client in his home, including assisting walking with a hemi-walker, helping with a variety of exercises, both physical and cognitive. Experienced care providing team members will help train you.
  • Respond effectively to corrective feedback from in-home care team regarding exercise form and efficacy and help support the client with physical and cognitive needs.
Experience Required:
  • A caring, kind and positive attitude toward the client is required.
  • Demonstrated interest in learning exercise therapy is required.
  • Current enrollment as a student in a related field is a plus.
  • One to two years of health care experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with brain-injured clients is a plus.
  • Interest in possible opportunities to have more hours per week on occasion (to cover vacations and sick leave of other exercise specialists) is a plus.
Schedule and Location:
  • 10 to 15 hours per week with occasional options for more time
  • 3 to 4 shifts of 1.5 to 3.5 hours per shift. Shifts are available on Wednesday morning, Friday morning, Saturday, and Sunday. You can work with the employer on specific times to accommodate your own schedule within these availability windows.
  • The work location (client's home) is conveniently located less than 1 mile from St.
Mary's Hospital and 1.5 miles from CMU.
Compensation:
Pay is commensurate with experience and ranges from $22 to $25 per hour through the Colorado's Consumer Directed Attendant Support Services (CDASS) Program. Workman's comp and sick leave are provided along with a retirement plan that can be employee-funded. Please note this is a temporary position expected to last around 6 to 12 months.

The client is a 49-year-old man with handicapping conditions due to a traumatic brain injury. He is quite physically strong but mostly wheelchair-bound. He has severe communication deficits while being cognitively alert and socially responsive. You have the opportunity to join a good team currently working with the client in his home, including a physical therapist, occupational therapy assistant, kinesiologist, speech therapist, former CNA and medical oversight director (Sylvia). The client is generally very friendly and cooperative in working to meet goals with the help of his caregivers. He has a good sense of humor and works hard to improve.
