Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Associate Marriage and Family Therapist to join our team in a school-based setting. This role involves providing mental health support to students across elementary, junior high, and high schools in Chico. The therapist will conduct individual therapy sessions using art, play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused techniques, and other evidence-based approaches. Responsibilities Conduct one-on-one therapy sessions with students in elementary, junior high, and high schools in Chico. Utilize various therapeutic modalities including art therapy, play therapy, CBT, solution-focused therapy, and other appropriate interventions tailored to individual student needs. Pull students from classes in a respectful and supportive manner to participate in therapy sessions. Maintain detailed, accurate clinical notes for each session in compliance with legal and ethical standards. Communicate effectively with parents or guardians regarding student progress and treatment plans. Make sound judgment calls regarding student care while adhering to current laws, ethics, and mandated reporting requirements. Stay informed about relevant laws, ethical guidelines, and best practices related to school-based mental health services. Collaborate with school staff and supervisors to ensure comprehensive support for students' mental health needs. Participate in supervision meetings with licensed clinical supervisors to review cases and professional development. Requirements Current registration or licensure as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist or equivalent credential. Experience working with children and adolescents in a therapeutic setting is preferred. Ability to travel between multiple school sites within Chico efficiently. Strong communication skills for effective interaction with students, parents, school staff, and supervisors. Knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic techniques such as art therapy, play therapy, CBT, and solution-focused approaches. Excellent professional judgment with the ability to make appropriate decisions regarding student care. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to legal standards including mandated reporting requirements. Ability to write clear, concise clinical notes documenting sessions accurately. Up-to-date knowledge of laws, ethics, and best practices related to mental health services in a school setting.
