On-site, residential facility Position Summary The Mental Health Therapist provides individual, group, and family therapy to adults in a residential dual-diagnosis treatment program. Working within an integrated care team, the therapist delivers evidence-based, trauma-informed treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions, develops and maintains treatment plans, and supports residents' recovery, stabilization, and reintegration — in accordance with CARF standards and Maryland regulatory requirements. Key ResponsibilitiesDirect Clinical Services Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and mental health evaluations for new and current residents. Provide individual, group, and (as appropriate) family therapy using evidence-based modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed and relapse-prevention approaches). Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized treatment plans that address co-occurring mental health and substance use needs. Support crisis intervention, de-escalation, and safety planning as part of the clinical team. Care Coordination & Integrated Treatment Collaborate with counselors, case managers, nursing, psychiatric providers, and residential staff to coordinate integrated, person-centered care. Participate in treatment planning meetings, case conferences, and interdisciplinary team reviews. Coordinate referrals, discharge planning, and connection to aftercare and community resources. Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation (assessments, progress notes, treatment plans) in accordance with CARF standards, state regulations, HIPAA, and 42 CFR Part 2. Ensure services meet medical-necessity and utilization requirements. Support accreditation, audits, and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Resident Engagement Build therapeutic rapport and promote a recovery-oriented, culturally responsive environment. Educate residents on coping skills, relapse prevention, and mental health/substance use recovery. QualificationsRequired Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field. Active Maryland behavioral health license or license eligibility (e.g., LGPC, LMSW, LCPC, LCSW-C, LCADC, or equivalent). License level to be matched to the role and level of independent practice. Knowledge of co-occurring/dual-diagnosis treatment and evidence-based therapeutic modalities. Strong assessment, documentation, and clinical communication skills. Preferred Independent clinical license (LCPC, LCSW-C, or LCADC). Experience in residential, inpatient, or substance use treatment settings. Training in trauma-informed care and/or MAT-supportive counseling. Familiarity with CARF (or comparable accreditation) standards. Core Competencies Strong clinical and crisis-management skills.
