Counseling Certification Full Job Description PURPOSE:
The Child Therapist provides evidence-based, trauma-informed mental health services to children and adolescents who have experienced abuse, neglect, or violence to support healing, recovery, and overall well-being.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide evidence-based, trauma-informed individual, family, and group therapy to children and adolescents.
- Maintain a caseload sufficient to meet a minimum expectation of 20 individual client sessions per week.
- Complete clinical assessments, develop treatment plans, monitor client progress, and provide crisis intervention and referrals as needed.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential clinical documentation in compliance with agency policies, HIPAA, Medicaid, insurance, grant, and applicable federal and North Carolina requirements.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team (MDT) partners and referral sources to coordinate services for children and families.
- Participate in clinical supervision, case consultation, staff meetings, and continuing education to maintain professional competency.
- Maintain compliance with National Children's Alliance (NCA) Accreditation Standards and Carousel Child Advocacy Center policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical decision-making, cultural responsiveness, and respect for the confidentiality and dignity of children and families.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of Carousel Child Advocacy Center.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Master's degree or higher in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
- Hold a current North Carolina license or associate license to practice therapy as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
- Minimum of one year of professional experience in child advocacy, behavioral health, child protective services, victim services, criminal justice, or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of child development, trauma, attachment, abuse dynamics, and crisis intervention.
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills.
- Knowledge of evidence-based trauma treatment approaches.
- Ability to establish trusting therapeutic relationships with children and caregivers.
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary systems.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and electronic documentation systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Fully licensed under licensing board
- Rostered to provide Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), or other evidence-based therapeutic modality
- Three to five years of experience serving children and families in a therapeutic setting.
Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit for extensive periods of time; use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard and calculator; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel or crouch. In addition, the employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Must submit to and pass a criminal background screening and E-Verify requirements.
- Requires a valid North Carolina Driver's License, good driving record, and automobile insurance.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must pass a drug screening.
- Ability to work flexible hours/schedule, i.
e., occasional Saturdays and evening hours. on occasion and ability to work off-site in different settings throughout the community.
