TYPE OF POSITION
: Full time, non-exempt MOMS Orange County's (MOMS) mission is to help mothers and their families have healthy babies by providing health coordination, education, and access to community services. The Health Educator position will support the mission and general operations by participating in all aspects of the health education program, including class recruitment, enrollment, and instruction, data collection, and outreach. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following but are not limited to:
- Teach in-person health education classes at various locations throughout Orange County.
- Implement high quality, culturally appropriate, health education curriculum.
- Serve as a resource for clients and connect them with other community services.
- Facilitate classes according to the organization's guidelines.
- Administer sign-in sheets and surveys for all clients participating in classes.
- Represent organization at collaboratives and special events.
- Participate in community initiatives as deemed appropriate.
- Work within the guidelines, polices and mission of the organization and be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned.
Facilitate support groups as needed. Ensure all class supplies are available and prepared for each class. Maintain education supplies and pamphlets. Communicate with other staff members, including assigned Maternal Child Health Worker (MCHW) when applicable, regarding client needs. Refer to home visitation program or other classes as appropriate. Elevate ideas to improve teaching methods, curriculum, or materials to Health Education Manager. Contact clients for class enrollment and confirmation of attendance. Refer clients from classes to appropriate resources including but not limited to medical services, child development services, and mental health services. Maintain confidentiality of clients at all times by complying with HIPAA policies. Work with volunteers as needed. Abide by all MOMS established policies and procedures, including, but not limited to performance standards, telephone guidelines, customer service guidelines and other requirements as described in the MOMS employee handbook as well as performing other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in health related field, i.e., human services, health or education or equivalent experience preferred. Prior classroom teaching experience (health education experience preferred). Relevant work experience desired. Excellent listening and speaking skills to understand client's concerns and convey information to them. Excellent customer service skills. Strong problem solving and group work leadership skills. Diligent with attention to detail. Commitment to maintaining highest standards of integrity and professional conduct. Demonstrates a high level of compassion to staff, volunteers and clients. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Bilingual in English-Spanish required. Strong, confident public speaking experience in both English and Spanish. Must have a valid CA driver's license, proof of automobile insurance and be willing to travel on the job. Reliable mode of transportation. Strategic Vision and Agility - ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the organizational plan.
