The Wellness Center Floor Staff/Instructor at the Naugatuck Y is responsible for assisting in daily floor supervision, fitness testing, new member orientations, and administration of the fitness center and lower YMCA level in accordance with YMCA protocols. Interacts with new and existing members to help them in achieving their health and well-being goals. Creates a welcoming environment for all members of all backgrounds and abilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Is physically active and has a passion for health and fitness, and youth development
  • General knowledge of wellness trends.
  • Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, First Aid, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Conducts new member Orientations for both facility and equipment usage, including member intakes. 2. Assists with supervision of youth and members in lower level of YMCA including Gymnasium and locker rooms. 3. Coach's members in support of their desired behavior change without always prescribing the answer. 4. Introduces new members to group exercise communities based their health and well-being goals. 5. Register, and monitor new and present member Orientations. 6. Regularly checks on members' progress in meeting personal and program goals (both formally and informally). 7. Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being. 8. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members. 9. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the
YMCA. 10.
Observes and adjusts approach to support members' capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture. 11. Celebrates the achievements of members' related to personal goals, mastering of specific skills or overall health and well-being. 12. Conducts daily administrative, cleaning, and maintenance of Wellness Center and its equipment. 13. Communicates with Leadership staff regarding the needs of the Health and Wellness department. 14. Works directly with supervisor, and Membership Director to address the needs of members. 15. Promote, monitor, and assist in Member retention programs. 16. Ensures appropriate music is playing at all times in Wellness areas 17. Designs monthly informational bulletin boards 18. Participates in Y special events as requested. 19.
