(0-5 Grantee) Detroit, Michigan Full-Time | Non-Exempt Make a Difference in the Health and Well-Being of Children and Families New St. Paul Head Start Agency, Inc. is seeking a dedicated, organized, and compassionate Health Assistant to join our team. The Health Assistant plays an important role in supporting the delivery of comprehensive health services to children and families enrolled in our Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Working as part of the Health content area team, this position assists with child health screenings, health records and documentation, referrals, family resources, regulatory compliance, and the coordination of medical and dental services. What You'll Do As our Health Assistant, you will work closely with the Health Manager and other program staff to: Assist with the coordination and delivery of Head Start/Early Head Start health services, including medical and dental services. Participate in child health screenings, re-screenings, follow-up activities, and other health services appropriate for unlicensed/uncredentialed staff. Assist with maintaining accurate and up-to-date individual child health records, documentation, vital statistics, and health-related data. Monitor and support compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, childcare licensing requirements, and Agency health policies and procedures. Assist with referrals and follow-up for children and families requiring medical, dental, vision, or other health-related services. Help connect families with community health resources, including Medicaid, CHIP, medical homes, and other available services. Support health education efforts for families through workshops, parent meetings, educational materials, and other activities. Assist with employee health tracking, health-related training, first-aid resources, medication administration systems, and other health and safety initiatives. Collaborate with Education, Family Services, Disabilities, and other program areas to support the overall health and well-being of children. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff. Build and maintain positive working relationships with families, community partners, and health service providers. Education & Experience Minimum Qualifications:

Associate degree in Health, Nutrition, or a closely related field . Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience working in public health, medical, dental, or a related setting preferred. Experience working with low-income children and families is preferred. Knowledge & Skills The ideal candidate will demonstrate: Knowledge of health, community health, human development, and basic nursing principles and practices. Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills with close attention to accuracy. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to establish positive working relationships with children, families, staff, health providers, and community partners. Good professional judgment and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Computer proficiency, including basic Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Additional Requirements Following a conditional offer of employment, candidates must successfully satisfy applicable pre-employment requirements, including required health screening and background clearances. The position may require occasional travel, evening or weekend participation in Agency activities, exposure to typical classroom environments and communicable illnesses, and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
