Job Description

Summary The Clinical Educator/Employee Health Nurse provides quality education to clinical staff to ensure safe, quality care for patients and families, and manages the Employee Health Service program for employees, volunteers, and providers of Astera Health. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Serves as a mentor, educator, and leader by providing communication, education, training, and guidance to clinical staff regarding safe and effective patient care, competencies, proficiency with procedures, and problem-solving regarding patient needs and delivering patient care. Develops, plans, reviews, and analyzes nursing education curriculum based on organizational need, collaborating with Astera departments and team members. Serves as a member of relevant committees, and presents recommendations to policies, procedures, and protocols. Serves as a lead for Nursing TCAT and utilizes data to support performance improvement projects. Coaches staff on the use of the nursing process and involvement in performance improvement opportunities. Provides direct leadership of the preceptorship program, policies, procedures, and protocols to accompany relevant learning modules. Utilizes up-to-date standards and best practices to develop and review proposed protocols and policies and procedures. Partners with leaders to ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards. Initiates, tracks, and ensures timely completion of competencies for new or recertification of continuing education for all clinical staff to comply with Joint Commission standards. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of new procedures, products and equipment used in acute care in order to serve as a resource and educator. Researches and determines recommendations on a variety of informed teaching and measurement tools. Coordinates all clinical aspects of Employee Health Services and worker's compensation management, including assessment and treatment of employee injuries/illnesses and occupational testing. Assists leaders and Human Resources staff with employee return-to-work and accommodations. Participates in new employee orientation and conducts new hire screenings and annual employee health screenings; including but not limited to respirator fit testing, immunization updates, and brief physical assessment. Partners with Infection Prevention to coordinate necessary paperwork, sample collection, and process for all Bloodborne Pathogen Exposures. Leads and develops strategies and initiatives for the employee wellness program, including events, and campaigns in conjunction with the wellness coordinator. Maintains confidential employee health records. Serve as a resource for case management and provide utilization review coverage for up to one day per week. Supports the mission and positively exhibits the values of Astera Health through personal conduct and behaviors. Performs other duties as required or assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree from a Registered Nurse program. Current Minnesota Registered Nurse license in good standing. Two or more years of experience as a Registered Nurse. Previous experience in education and learning development. Equivalent education and experience is acceptable. Maintain active BLS and ACLS certification. Demonstrates a high degree of commitment to service excellence. Ability to perform tasks both collaboratively and independently. Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information. Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, providers, vendors, and community partners. Demonstrates concern for patients of all ages, visitors, and co-workers Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree from a Registered Nurse program. Physical and Mental Demands While performing the responsibilities of this job, the incumbent is frequently required to sit and communicate with other individuals. The incumbent is also regularly required to stand, walk, and perform manual tasks involving the use of hands and fingers. The incumbent may occasionally be required to lift, push, or pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds. The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
