Assistant Director of Health Information Management

Job Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible to assist with the oversight and management of all aspects of program administration including organization, evaluation, student relations, and program development. This position would teach six (6) or more credits (fall/spring) per semester either in the classroom, on Blackboard or a combination of both. In addition, they will assume responsibility for outcomes assessments in one or more courses in the discipline, participate on college committees including Middle States, and contribute in a meaningful way to the college community. This position will be a liaison to the department's adjunct faculty, be responsible for assigning adjuncts to courses, processing teaching agreements, assisting with issues related to Blackboard, verifying that all pre-semester updates have been made, completing adjunct evaluations, and communicating any Blackboard, distance learning or departmental issues to the adjunct staff. In addition, this position is responsible for maintaining adjunct credentials, notifying adjuncts of RCBC sponsored professional development, verifying that professional development has been completed and keeping records of all adjunct attendance.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist with the direction the Health Information Technology in accordance with the accreditation standards established by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). 2. Assist with the direction the Cancer Registry Management AAS and Certificate in accordance with the accreditation standards established by the National Cancer Registry Association (NCRA). 3. Assist with the direction the Coding Certificate Program and the Medical Billing Certificate program according to industry requirements and needs. 4. Assist in the preparation of all paperwork required by the Instructional Affairs Council (IAC) for all changes required in any of the department programs. 5. Contribute to the planning, control, and implementation of all program changes as required by the accrediting agencies. 6. Work with the healthcare community and incumbent healthcare workers to provide educational resources and continuing educational opportunities. 7. Develop, in collaboration with Director of Health Information Management, course syllabi, assessments, and rubrics as part of program development and institutional and student outcomes assessment. 8. Participate in the hiring, coordination and scheduling of all adjuncts in the department. 9. Contribute to the preparation of HIT Advisory Committee meetings; 10. Participate as an active member of the College and HIM related committees. 11. Participate in professional educational programs by attending workshops, conferences and meetings. 12. Advise students on course selections and career development opportunities. 13. Aid in recruiting including corresponding with and interviewing prospective students. 14. Assume responsibility for professional growth through membership in appropriate professional organizations (AHIMA, HIMSS, NCRA, AAPC). 15. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisory personnel. 16. Maintain office and advising hours for students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education Required:
Master's degree. Bachelor's degree with appropriate credentials will be considered based on years of experience. Candidate must possess AHIMA credentials; Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
Experience Required:
Minimum of five years of experience in Health Information Management in an acute care, non-acute care or other healthcare facility. Member of

Experience Preferred:
Teaching experience in the discipline of Health Information Technology Teaching experience at the college level. Experience in the use of instructional technologies (Blackboard specifically) Cancer Registry experience (Certified Tumor Registry (CTR) credential) ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT-4 experience (CCS, CCS-P, or CPC credential) Active participation in the
AHIMA/NJHIMA/NCRA
Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /
Other Requirements:
Active participation in college community The ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Use of communicative and content-based methodologies in teaching. Experience in curriculum development. Evidence of a strong commitment to teach and remain current in the field of Health Information Technology, including both traditional curricula as well as alternate methods of delivery. Evidence of an ability to develop materials and provide high-quality instruction with computers and/or other forms of multimedia and advanced technology. Experience developing and implementing programmatic assessment tools. Demonstrated commitment to community college mission of providing instruction to students of diverse abilities, interests, and cultural backgrounds.
