Job Description

Title:
Clinical Coding Specialist Department:
Health Information Management Reports to :
Health Information Management Director Job Summary:
Responsible for coding all clinical records including IP/OBS/OPS/ED/OP/OT/PT/ST, Professional fee; to provide a quality record, coded, keyed and billed in an accurate and timely manner. Verifies all orders for compliance and medical necessity. Verifies documentation as to treatment and supplies/services charged. Compiles statistical data for PI/Training/Education/Reporting purposes.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduate from an accredited program for Health Information Management or coding certification required. Must provide validation of coding course completion.
RHIT/CCS/CPC
required.
Experience/Licensure/Certification:
At least 1-year Critical Access/Acute care coding experience required. Coding certification required. Graduate or student from an accredited program for Health Information Management.
Skills:
Ability to work in an individual setting. Ability to work well with medical record documentation. Computer skills are a must.
Physical/Mental Demands:
Office setting. Must be able to sit for long periods at a computer workstation. Must be able to concentrate on tasks, perform work without direct supervision for the scheduled work shift.
Working Conditions:
Moderate amount of sitting, walking, bending and working at computer monitor screen. Ability to deal with stressful situations and frequent work interruptions.
Complexity:
Must extract substance from complex coding systems. Ability to follow standard practices in coding/reimbursement. Demonstrate the knowledge of optimization of coding for reimbursement. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of DNV, STATE, Federal Record Completion Standards and HIPAA Confidentiality Regulations.

Physicians, nursing personnel, administration, and health information team members, and other departments within Rhea Medical Center.
