Summary The Communications Operator manages the switchboard for the hospital in order to provide routine information and to direct calls to the appropriate areas or utilize the overhead paging system. Essential Duties and Responsibilities These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned. Answer incoming calls and provide direct dial numbers as appropriate Respond to emergency calls and codes following established protocols Assist callers by using the paging or beeping systems as needed Utilize the CRMC Information Technology programs designated by the Manager—i.e. Patient Information System, E-mail, and Telecommunications software—proficiently Monitor and follow protocols for alarms announced in the Telecommunications office Maintain required records and statistics Assist in the maintenance and care of department equipment and supplies Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care Supervisory Responsibilities Reports to: Switchboard/PBX Supervisor, may also receive direction from the
