Night - 12 Hour (United States of America) Job Summary The Obstetrical Technician, under direction and supervision of an RN, will perform selected activities in the L&D unit directly related to preparing and scrubbing for cesarean sections; preparing and maintaining anesthesia supplies and the equipment in the Labor & Delivery Department. Performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of the patient. Essential Functions The essential functions listed below are general examples and not a description of comprehensive duties. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary depending on department or program needs without changing nature or scope of this position or level of responsibility. May be asked to perform other duties as assigned. Assists with setting the patient up in their room, may admit patient, pick up from ER. Provides comfort measures-ice chips, changes under pads, helps with patient positing and serves and retrieves meal trays as appropriate. Prepares for delivery by setting up delivery table, assures baby table and all supplies are readily available and functioning. Sets up baby cribs and radiant warmers in nursery. Transfers stable mother and newborn from L/D to Maternal/Child. Transports well newborn from mother's room to nursery. Takes baby pictures Stocks LDRP rooms and nursery. Orders supplies for Maternal/Child Department as needed. Prepares and passes instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies needed in the operative procedure and maintains a correct count. Assists the L/D staff during delivery as directed. Assists in care of specimens, and ensures specimen is delivered to lab. Assists with the clean-up, restocking of supplies and sterilization or room post birth. Responsible for daily maintenance of anesthesia and equipment. Check anesthesia carts and epidural carts for appropriate supply levels and ensures equipment is in working order. Performs basic clerical functions as assigned.
