Administers basic treatments (e.g. dressing changes, telemetry, specimen collection). Supports nursing personnel in providing direct patient care. Assists patients with daily activities. Measures and records daily weights. Discontinues foley catheters. Measures and records vital signs, I&Os, and monitors patient condition. Performs EKG's, phlebotomy and blood glucose monitoring . Job Function 2: Reports changes in patient condition: Knowledgeable of the normal values and ranges for vital signs and I&O's, recognizes abnormal findings and reports to the primary nurse. Participates in daily Huddle. Documents timely in the patients' medical record. Job Function 3: Determines priorities of care: Demonstrates flexibility in responding to patient needs while completing assignments. C ompletes all assignments unless otherwise directed by charge nurse. Works as a team member in meeting the unit needs. Seeks approval for reprioritization of more complex events deviating from original assignment. Performs activities as needed without supervision. Job Function 4: Provides and Maintains Safety and C omfort Measures for
Patient:
Answers call lights promptly and courteously and provides interventions as appropriate. Ensures call bell and telephone are within reach of patient prior to leaving patient room. C leans, stocks and sets up rooms for arriving patients. C hecks for appropriate patient IDs including falls and allergy. Ensures patient rooms are neat and clean. Recognizes need for and responds to all bed and chair alarms in an expeditious manner. Works as Patient Safety Technician as needed. Rounds with purpose using appropriate scripting. Gives report to oncoming shift. Job Function 5: Provides Emotional Support to
Patient and Significant Others:
Observes and responds to emotional needs of patient and or significant other. Reports observations to RN for follow up. Seeks information regarding teaching goals for individual patients. Observes RN instructions to patients and provides consistent reinforcement as needed. Job Function 6: Equipment C are: Maintains log of all equipment sent to C linical Engineering for repair. Reports all lost or equipment unable to be repaired to charge nurse. Returns rental equipment in a timely manner with patient identification. Keeps equipment cleaned and charged. Notifies unit associate of equipment needing repair and attaches appropriate repair tag. Orients new staff in care of equipment. Job Function 7:
Maintains Safe Environment:
Adheres to OSHA, Joint C ommission, Board of Health and hospital standards. Observes and maintains isolation precautions. Follows hand washing protocol. Maintains a clean and clutter free work environment. Uses and stores equipment properly. Wears and uses communication devices (Vocera) according to policy. Must work in a fast-paced environment with positive customer serivce skills. Job Function 8: Other Duties as assigned. High school diploma or equivalent. Nursing or medical students preferred. Previous patient care experience required. CMA preferred. Current AMA BLS preferred.
