Job Description

Job Summary Performs a variety of tasks that relate to the preparation and delivery of human milk and infant formulas based on patient formula orders. Technicians must adhere to all food safety/sanitation regulations and standards established by the hospital and regulatory agencies. The technician is responsible for the safe and effective operation of equipment needed to prepare infant feedings and maintain sanitation in the preparation room. Processes human milk/formula orders provided by nursing staff. Performs required quality assurance monitoring activities. Essential Functions All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference. Prepares, portions, and delivers patient feedings per recipe or patient orders supplied by bedside nurse. Verifies all prepared feedings with RN prior to RN administering. Maintains and monitors safe storage and appropriate disposition of breastmilk in the computer system-ensures breastmilk is properly labeled. Communicates with manager, ANM, charge nurse or bedside nurse as appropriate regarding problems with feeding orders, human milk/formula storage, or administration- reports any discrepancies related to feedings prepared. Maintains a sanitary and safe environment by following departmental and infection prevention policies; maintains clean equipment and orderly workspace. Ensures that department standards are met and that all sanitary activities are conducted in accordance with federal, state, and local health regulations. Uses correct technique to measure solids and liquids. Maintains an adequate inventory of feeding preparation room supplies; removes outdated formula stock and supplies from inventory and disposes per facility guidelines. Unpacks, labels, and stores fortifiers, formula, and supplies in their designated area; rotates supplies using first-in-first-out (FIFO) method. Assists in training other employees in feeding preparation and proper handling techniques as needed, as well as use of the computer breastmilk tracking, preparation, and administration system. Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security. Complies with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. Adheres to all established systems and training programs to provide a safe working environment. Complies with all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and to other local, state, and federal regulations. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
