Note:
Must be a current DBHDS employee to apply to this position. Provide laboratory analysis to clinicians, perform phlebotomy and EKG testing. Assumes the duties of classified Health Care I or II employees to cover absences from the department. Performs patient testing and LIS functions: Chemistry, Hematology, Hemostasis, Serology and Urinalysis sections performing analysis on both patient and control specimens in addition to performing urinalysis testing daily. Receives processes, analyzes and reports results of patient specimens according to SOP. Performs quality control daily and ensures values are acceptable by performing and documenting corrective action before releasing patient results. Initiates appropriate critical value verification testing and MD notification per SOP when results exceed established limits using the read-back SOP to ensure patient safety Minimum Qualifications College courses in medical technology or clinical laboratory science. Technician or technologist that meet minimum requirements for working in a high complexity laboratory as determined by federal CLIA regulations. Practical and theoretical knowledge and skills in clinical laboratory medicine to include phlebotomy; Understanding of physiological disease processes and the impact of laboratory results and diagnosis and treatment. The ability to make technically sound decisions that ensure the accurate interpretation, recording and communication of laboratory test results to physicians and other medical staff. Practical computer skills and understanding of instrumentation/LIS interfaces. Understanding of quality control practices and their importance to the overall functioning of the laboratory and accuracy of patient results. Perform analyzer maintenance at scheduled intervals. Additional Considerations Completion of a clinical laboratory program or internship through a hospital-based program or as part of education. National certification as a medical technologist (MT), clinical laboratory scientist (CLS), or medical laboratory scientist (MLS). Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by ABHES, NAACLS or other organization approved by the Center for Laboratory Medicine Services. Documented laboratory training in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis and Serology.
