Scholars Program Ready to take the next step from working with youth to helping lead the team that serves them? The YMCA Y Scholars Program is looking for Assistant Site Coordinators who are ready for more responsibility, more opportunities to lead, and more ways to make an impact. You'll work side-by-side with a Site Coordinator to help lead an afterschool program serving approximately 100 students each day. You'll coach team members, strengthen program quality, solve problems, support daily operations, and step up to lead when your program needs you most. This isn't a position where you wait on the sidelines for a chance to lead. You'll build leadership skills by actually leading—with coaching, support, and meaningful responsibility from day one. You will be assigned to an elementary or middle school program site in Richmond, El Sobrante, Pinole, San Pablo, or Oakland See all program sites: http://map.ymcayscholars.org

Full-Time Positions:

This role follows a year-round schedule based on a combination of YMCA programming and school district calendars. Most work takes place during the school year, with additional scheduled programming when school is out of session. This typically includes district professional development days, one week during winter break, one week during spring break, and approximately 6-7 weeks of summer programming. You'll be a key member of the site's leadership team. You'll work closely with your Site Coordinator to keep the program organized, engaging, safe, and moving forward. Some days you'll coach a team member. Other days you'll lead a student group, solve an operational challenge, review program quality, or step in to run the entire site. You'll learn how strong programs operate by helping lead one.

Your responsibilities will include:

Partnering with the Site Coordinator to lead a high-quality afterschool program serving approximately 100 students each day Helping guide, motivate, and support Group Leaders and other site team members Stepping into program leadership when the Site Coordinator is unavailable Leading a student group when additional coverage or support is needed Coaching team members through real-time feedback, modeling, and hands-on support Helping onboard and train new team members so they can become confident and successful in their roles Conducting observations and assessments to identify strengths and opportunities for program improvement Tracking program data and using what you learn to strengthen the student experience Helping ensure daily routines, activities, transitions, and operations run smoothly Participating actively in meetings, trainings, coaching, and professional development Learning and applying effective practices in youth development and expanded learning Bringing ideas, solutions, and initiative—not just identifying problems Taking on additional projects and responsibilities as needed to support students, families, and the program What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who enjoys working directly with young people but is also ready to grow beyond leading only their own group. You don't need to know everything on day one. You do need to be ready to learn, take feedback, solve problems, support others, and take ownership when something needs to get done. Required Qualifications 2 or more years of experience working in youth development, education, afterschool, recreation, camps, or similar programming 18 years of age or older 48 completed college units or a passing score on the Instructional Aide Exam (we can support you with taking the exam if needed) Ability to successfully clear required DOJ/FBI background checks CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within 30 days of hire (training provided at no cost) Reliable transportation and ability to travel consistently to program sites, meetings, and trainings Comfort learning and using technology and database tools such as Google Drive, Airtable, Zoom, and other program systems
