Job Description

This position works both with the nursing and clinical staff to ensure that patients concerns are addressed in an effective manner. Communicates with the Medical Director to make aware of patients admitted under a Baker Act, and facilitates all paperwork and tracking, ensuring the process is complete and closely monitored. Communicates with the Medical Director, Director of Nursing, Risk Management, charge nurses and social services. Directly and indirectly interacts with patients and families.
Specific Areas of Responsibility:
Serves as member of the hospital's program team, supporting the hospital's treatment program and philosophy, and assuring the delivery of quality treatment to patients and their families. Collaborates with administration, risk management, nursing, social services and other departments to respond to questions and concerns from patients and their families. Works closely with all members of the multi-disciplinary team in the implementation of treatment plans, based on the bio-psychosocial needs of the patient(s). Facilitate crisis intervention training and staff orientation activities as assigned. Acts as resource person for other members of the treatment team, providing support as assigned. Ensures client safety through maintaining confidentiality, knowledge of policies and procedures and reporting all patient issues to the interdisciplinary and administrative team. Provides crisis intervention and exercises verbal de-escalation techniques in an effort to avoid and reduce episodes of restraint. Follows "Baker Act Work Flow" Assumes responsibility for professional growth by attending in-services, seminars and other educational activities as required. Performs other duties as assigned and/or requested.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Licensure:
CPR Certification Experience:
Two (2) of the Four (4) years' experience with mental health patients and/or serving in an advocacy role. Experience working in acute hospital setting. Training at the time of hire: Skills in time management and crisis intervention common to acute patients and non-violent crisis. Skills in the treatment of adults with addiction and mental health disorders. General knowledge of mental health disorders in adults, familiar with recognized treatment, understands and applies behavior management concepts. Ability to clearly summarize pertinent clinical information via written correspondence and medical record documentation. Ability to speak effectively on a group and individual level before patients, families, and other treatment professionals.
