Job Description

United Methodist Homes in Binghamton is seeking a dedicated RN Unit Manager to oversee the continuity of care of the residents on the rehab unit in our skilled nursing home. The unit manager supervises the nursing activities performed by charge nurses, certified nursing assistants and all other nursing non-licensed staff during an assigned shift. Must be Registered Nurse in New York State.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Observes, evaluates and assesses residents' physical and emotional status to ensure their needs are met as indicated.
  • Consutls with Therapy Director to assess appropriate rehab plan for residents
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the resident care plan new problems or concerns and provides necessary instruction for all charge nurses on their unit to follow.
  • Documents information in a descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the resident as well as the resident's response to care.
  • Provides assessments and takes appropriate action with physicians, other disciplines, residents, family members and nursing staff.
  • Ensures the unit environment is safe and in accordance with rules, regulations and guidelines governing current infection control practices.
  • Completes all appropriate investigation and documentation with regards to resident, employee or visitor accidents/incidents.
  • Assists in feeding of residents during meal time
  • Responds to all resident, family, visitor and staff complaints in a timely manner. Documents all investigations required and communicates to nurse management.
  • Monitors medications pass and treatment procedures.
  • Informs Director of Nursing Services/ Assistant Director of Nursing Services of all pertinent departmental issues.
  • Completes all assigned Quality Assurance audits.
  • Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
  • Attends all mandatory in-services and seminars for continuing professional education.
  • Maintains confidentiality with all resident information in accordance with HIPAA Guidelines.
  • May be responsible for overseeing the completion and signing off on resident assessments and for completing all assigned sections of the MDS.
Education, Experience, Requirements:
Current and valid RN license in New York State An Associates Degree or equivalent from a 2-year college or technical nursing school Progressive professional experience in long term care nursing supervision/management Working knowledge of Pharmacology Extensive knowledge of RAI process and Quality Measures Working knowledge of Medicare Part A and Part B payment systems Competency in skills and techniques to meet residents' needs as identified through assessments and care plan
