Summary:
Manage the movement of patients within the Hospital according to policies and procedures in an efficient and safe manner through the use of appropriate transport vehicles and elevators. Schedule escorts to complete all transportation requests.
Responsibilities:
1. Acts as Coordinator of the Patient Transport department Promote a positive environment among a widely diversified group of associates and volunteers. Keep manager up to date with office supply needs and linens for Patient Transport Office. Understands and follows hospital and departmental policies, procedures and practices and relays these to Volunteers and associates when necessary. Keeps informed of changes and new developments that concern safe patient transport and conveys these to the patient transport manager. Uses e-mail and phone to maintain good communication 2. Takes requests for transportation of patients, visitors, and equipment Maintains effective phone communication to receive accurate information from hospital associates requesting patient transportation and prioritizes these requests according to patient need Appropriately assign volunteer or transport associate to safety transport patients, according to skill, ability and patient needs. Refers unusual requests, complaints or information relative to delays in service to the Patient Transport Manager for advice, clarification and/or decisions 3. Assigns volunteers and transport associates for transport of patients Supervise Volunteers for training and determines when Volunteers are prepared to safely transport patients without assistance. Show an understanding of paid staff duties versus volunteer duties. Ensures that Volunteers are given appropriate transport assignments considering factors such as age (adult Volunteer versus teen Volunteer),weight of patient, level of training, isolation precaution measures, equipment necessary for safe transport and other factors as necessary. Shows understanding of maintaining a safe environment for children within the hospital including Teen Transport Volunteers. Completes a training checklist and Initial Competency for all new volunteers. Assures that Volunteers understands the importance of and follows all HIPAA/Confidentiality standards. 4. Ensures all equipment used for transport of patients (stretchers, wheelchairs) is clean and in good working order. Communicate repair needs of equipment to the patient transport manager in a timely manner.
