Summary:

This position is responsible for leading the medical center-wide continuous security effort to provide for the protection of the lives, well-being and property of the patients, students, visitors and employees at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The areas of responsibility include HUP West, HUP East (Pavilion), PCAM / Smilow, 3600 CCB, HUP Cedar, ISC Building, Rittenhouse and the Parking Garages. Consistent with local, state and federal regulations, the Director develops, implements and monitors security policies, activities and programs in order to provide an environment that deters the presence of criminal activity, provides for a safe patient care and learning environment and provides for expedient assistance and investigation in the event of a security incident or security emergency. The Director is responsible for the direction, planning and implementation of the security technology functions including, but not limited to identification badging, access control modalities, badge readers, camera surveillance, duress alarms, radiologic source protections, infant protection systems, visitor management systems and alarms.

Responsibilities:

Oversees daily operations of department to ensure effective operations. Develops and recommends department operating budget and ensures that department operates within budget. Ensures that rounds, schedules and directives are maintained around the clock Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to system and department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Ensures compliance with system/hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations Obtains detailed reports of incidents involving security and keeps administration informed of incidents and developments. Supervises the maintenance and preparation of records, files, and other documents Maintains a protective and preventive security system and monitors security operations. Provides technical knowledge to assist management in the design of department-specific procedures and coordinates the education component of the security program Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Works with system leadership to develop standards of performance, evaluates performance and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provides feedback, discusses new developments, and exchanges information. Provide appropriate guidance, direction, mission-based skills training, resources and regular performance feedback to afford all team members the maximum opportunity to be highly successful Employ a serving leadership approach to optimize performance and employee engagement, remove barriers. Provide Leader Development to build the next generation of security leader create career paths for security leaders operate with an eye toward continuity and succession Actively manage the threat environment to prevent or minimize the effects of Workplace Violence. Conduct and support investigations into allegations of criminal acts, theft/property loss, assaults, workplace violence, and other activities that disrupt or have the potential to disrupt the delivery of health care and supporting operations.

Assist in operational assessments and intervention with situations that pose a threat to the safety of the organization, patients, visitors and staff. Provide crime prevention and education/awareness tailored to varying populations within Penn Medicine to reduce crime, reduce loss, foster a positive culture of security, and improve employee perceptions of safety Ensure Facility Security Plans are current, relevant, comprehensive, compliant and operationally useful Partner with key stakeholders to conduct Risk Assessments and work aggressively to mitigate risks identified in assessment recommendations Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees, and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate Serves as liaison with other healthcare security leaders and local, state and federal law enforcement leaders as necessary

Credentials:

Driver's License (Required) State issued Drivers License Healthcare Security & Safety (Required) CHPA (Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator) IAHSS Must acquire within 1 year of date of hire.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

•And 5+ years 5 years of direct security or law enforcement management experience with Federal, State, or local law enforcement, preferably with at least 3+ years in a healthcare/hospital setting or 7 years direct security experience in a healthcare setting.
