Temporary Domestic Violence Case Manager
Job Description
Harambe Social Services is looking for a compassionate, culturally fluent, experienced, and resourceful Domestic Violence Case Manager to provide intensive case management services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The candidate will be responsible for helping survivors gain access to timely resources and services, while also educating them about abuse and power dynamics, and support them through their healing journey. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively liaise with clients, community partners, and other stakeholders. They should be adept at crisis intervention, capable of remaining calm and empathetic under pressure, and have a thorough understanding of trauma-informed care practices. Additionally, familiarity with diverse cultural backgrounds will be highly advantageous in addressing the unique needs of each survivor. Responsibilities include answering high volume calls to complete survivor intakes, conducting initial assessments to identify the immediate needs of survivors, developing personalized safety plans, providing advocacy services related to housing, legal, medical, employment, and financial empowerment, and timely documentation of provided services using the DAP note format. Most importantly, the case manager will work to empower survivors and build a community of resilience and mutual support. The role requires a proactive approach in staying updated with the latest developments in domestic and sexual violence advocacy, including changes in legal statutes, best practices in survivor support, and emerging resources. The advocate will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic approach to survivor care, fostering an environment where every individual feels seen, heard, and valued.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree (BSW) in social work required. A master's degree in social work (MSW) preferred. Must work well with persons of varied sexual orientation and gender identities, racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and with individuals who are disabled. Demonstrated knowledge of crisis intervention and intensive case management skills required. Previous employment or volunteer work with survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault required. Demonstrate the ability to complete timely documentation of services provided utilizing DAP notes , familiarity with internal and external services and resources available to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Must provide proof of 40-60 hours of domestic violence or sexual assault training. Demonstrate the ability to multitask. Strong oral and written communication and computer skills are required. Bilingual (Spanish/English) speaker a plus.
- Conduct survivor assessments and intakes.
- Provide clients with concrete and intensive case management and access to agency and external resources.
- Assist survivors in identifying and fulfilling their immediate/urgent needs.
- Consistently meet with clients to develop and maintain relevant and meaningful service, safety, and stability plans.
- Educate survivors about dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault.
- Maintain service partnerships with referral agencies. Refer survivors to other agencies and resources and advocate directly with other agencies as needed to help client access necessary services.
- Manage incoming calls and walk-ins. Provide phone coverage during shift including intakes.
- Assess immediate crisis needs of victims during intake calls and perform appropriate actions.
- Participate in field work approximately 3-4 times per week, including but not limited to accompanying clients to court hearings, medical appointments, board of social services appointments, and evening emergency and temporary hotel placement.
- Be available to work 1-2 evening shifts based upon agency and survivor needs.
- Complete and maintain client records and document services provided to survivors.
- Support the daily operations of office, as assigned.
- Participate in outreach events, including some evenings and weekends.
- Participate in agency and funder meetings, case conferences, and assigned trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Training Requirements :
40 - 60 hours of domestic violence and/or sexual assault training. 5 hours paid training related to LGBTQI+ community provided by the agency.
Salary:
Based on experience. Base wage starts at $47,000 annually.
