All On-site Job Description Lead Histotechnologist
Union City, CA
Day Shift The Lead Histotechnologist oversees daily histology laboratory operations in a research-driven environment, ensuring high-quality tissue processing, sectioning, and staining to support preclinical and translational studies. This role provides technical leadership, maintains compliance with regulatory standards, and drives continuous improvement in laboratory workflows. Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate daily histology lab operations, including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and slide preparation
Ensure quality control and consistency of histological preparations (H&E, special stains, IHC)
Train, mentor, and evaluate histology staff
Develop, optimize, and validate histology protocols and SOPs
Oversee laboratory compliance with applicable regulatory and safety standards (e.g., GLP when applicable)
Collaborate with pathologists and research scientists on study requirements and timelines
Manage inventory, equipment maintenance, and vendor relationships
Troubleshoot technical issues and implement corrective actions
Support data integrity, documentation, and reporting requirements
Qualifications / Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Histotechnology, or related field
HTL (ASCP) certification preferred or required
5-8+ years of histology experience, including leadership or supervisory experience
Strong expertise in tissue processing, microtomy, IHC, and special stains
Experience in a biotech, CRO, or research laboratory environment preferred
Knowledge of GLP/GMP standards is a plus
Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
