Department Overview The Pathology department provides clinical and anatomical pathology services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Serves as a reference laboratory for routine and complex tests. Staff are specially trained in pediatric blood collection, age-specific techniques, and coping strategies to improve the patient and family experience. Position Summary Accountable for daily histology technologist duties, including preparation and processing of tissues. The work includes limited specimen gross, accessioning of all tissue types, histological processing, sectioning and staining. Provides oversight and work direction to histology technicians (HTs) and laboratory assistants in the absence of management. Other histology duties include but are not limited to, maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies, participation in evaluation of new techniques and methodology, revision and updating of techniques as needed. Baccalaureate degree AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histology program. Certified as a Histotechnologist (HTL) by American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent professional organization. New HTL graduates have the first twelve months of employment to obtain their HTL certification. Must meet continuing education requirements to maintain certification if applicable.
