Pathology Consultants has been serving Oregon for over 90 years.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Processes tissue specimens, using established standards and procedures. 2. Sections tissue specimens, using microtome knife, following established standards and procedures, in preparation for tissue processing. 3. Stains and coverslips pathology specimen slides, following established standards and procedures. 4. Proficient in special staining procedures. 5. Proficient in Immunohistochemistry staining. 6. Prepares and stains skin biopsies for Direct Immunofluorescent procedure. 7. Responsible for being familiar with and working to maintain compliance with all regulatory standards and requirements that apply to their work area. As part of the institution's ongoing quality improvement effort, the employee should pursue opportunities to resolve identified problems and improve patient care. 8. Actively participates in the team and in shared ownership of their team or work group. A shared ownership team is a team whose members actively focus their skills, knowledge and abilities on the team's performance. Team members hold one another jointly responsible for the team's results. 9. Responsible for being familiar with safety policies and procedures in relation to their work areas and will comply with these policies. As part of Pathology Consultants efforts to ensure a safe workplace, employees are asked to actively participate in hazard identification and resolution. Completing safety training is essential; the employee holds the responsibility for ensuring that they attend the sessions accordingly.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

1. Performs routine preventative instrument maintenance according to manufacture guidelines. 2. Prepare reagents for department use. 3. Files paraffin blocks in storage areas. 4. Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION

A bachelor's or associate degree in biology, chemistry, or a related life science. HT or

HTL ASCP

Certification preferred.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/TRAINING

Strong manual dexterity and high attention to detail. Performs moderately complex tasks requiring proficiency with laboratory information systems.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

Works inside in a general laboratory setting. This position is OSHA Category 1: Potential contact. Requires sitting, standing and walking according to work performed. Light lifting and carrying required. Employs fingering when working with microtome knives, and slides. Manual dexterity is required in handling tissue specimens, slides and other medical equipment or tools.

INTERPERSONAL/PROFESSIONAL RELATIONS

Interacts with co-workers, outside officials and other Pathology Consultants/Northwest Pathology Services employees in maintaining quality control standards, continuity of workflow and preventative maintenance. Fosters open communication with superiors regarding challenges with special partnerships or external entities. Encourage clear and transparent dialogue between all parties.
