Competitive - based on experience About the Role We are seeking a caring, patient, and dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP)/ Caregiver to provide personalized support to individuals with Down syndrome who are experiencing early signs of dementia. This is a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting difference in someone's daily life. Your role will focus on building a trusting relationship, promoting independence, and supporting the individual in living a meaningful, self-directed life through person-centered planning. Patience, consistency, and a strong understanding of both developmental and cognitive support needs. DSPs will provide hands-on assistance in a Supported Living Services (SLS) setting, helping individuals maintain independence while ensuring their health, safety, and well-being. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provide consistent 1:1 support to adults with Down syndrome who are also showing early signs of dementia Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) — hands on assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and personal hygiene Medication administration — following prescribed medication schedules, documentation, and reporting Meal preparation & cooking — planning and preparing nutritious, preference-based meals Light housekeeping — maintaining a clean, safe, and organized living environment Transportation — driving individuals to medical appointments, community activities, and errands Companionship — engaging individuals in meaningful social activities, hobbies, and community participation Documentation — accurately completing daily logs, incident reports, and progress notes Communication — maintaining regular contact with supervisors, service coordinators, and family members as appropriate Preferred Qualifications Previous experience as a caregiver, DSP, or in a related field preferred Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and/or dementia strongly preferred Understanding of early-stage dementia and behavioral changes Ability to de-escalate emotional or behavioral situations Dependable, flexible, and team-oriented Strong communication and observation skills Skilled in relationship-building, patience, and responsive support. Strong commitment to person-centered values and respectful communication. Comfortable navigating community settings with the individual you support. Requirements Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Reliable transportation and valid auto insurance. Must pass a background check and provide professional references. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Ability to provide physical assistance as needed. Why Join Us?
