This energetic and rewarding role offers the chance to make a meaningful difference in this young woman's weekend life life through personalized care, assistance with activities of daily living, and fostering independence. Working from Friday evening to Sunday evening, you will be an essential part of creating a safe, comfortable, environment and creating adventures /fun for the individual you support. If you're passionate about caregiving, experienced in home health or assisted living settings, and eager to bring positivity and professionalism to your work, this position is perfect for you!
EVERY OTHER WEEKEND
Personal Care Position available with female 31-year-old wheelchair user, in Spring Valley. 49 hours: Friday 5pm to Sunday 6pm, every other weekend Native Spanish speakers, also fluent in English, welcome to apply, since this young woman is fluent in Spanish & of course, English. She is exceptionally smart, makes her own life decisions, her own appointments, manages her own schedule, yet requires 24/7 PHYSICAL assistance in her own home. She has a rear-entry wheelchair accessible minivan which the Personal Care Assistant (PCA) will drive wherever client needs/chooses to go. Her mother will assist in the hiring & training process. Once training is completed, the client/she manages the day-to-day responsibilities /interactions/schedule with her Personal Care Assistant staff. While attending San Diego City College, she completed her AA, majored in Spanish, with a 3.95 GPA.
PAY RATE
is approx. $21-$23/ hour, depending on qualifications, availability for position preferred schedule, reliability, and references. All applicable State and Federal Overtime laws apply.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum age 18 years old Valid current driver's license, excellent driving record, and proof of auto insurance Original Social Security Card Pass FBI background check MUST be able to physically transfer & assist this young lady - core part of position (she is 155 pounds). She can weight bear with assistance, (it is NOT a dead weight or full weight lift at all) help her to stand and into her wheelchair, then assist her to lie down again later. Showers 2-3 times a week. Complete sponge baths other days. We teach proven easiest method, so both of you remain safe. MUST be willing to learn the specific technique for transferring her, how she loads/unloads in her wheelchair into/ out of-her rear entry accessible van, when she goes out in the community, most efficient shopping methods and storage in van. Even if you have done many of these tasks/skills with clients or family members before, the key to success in this position, is to be adaptable, flexible and willing to learn another routine, even for mundane tasks, and to use the best practices which have proven to be most effective in this young woman's life.
CONSISTENCY
for her experience is essential, which happens when all team members use the same best practices and techniques as trained. Cannot be allergic to dogs, because of her service dog.
RELIABILITY
/ TRUSTWORTHINESS/ HONESTY--these qualities are
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES MUST
have valid, current CA driver's license/excellent driving record/ proof of insurance since will be driving her in our family's accessible rear-entry van, usually daily. Must be able to physically assist this young woman to transfer from her bed to her wheelchair (vice versa) & push her wheelchair into her van's rear entry ramp, push her where need to go when out walking, (155 lbs.') She can stand with assist for transfers. Assist with young lady's basic personal hygiene needs: shower, or sponge bathe, dress, brush hair, brush teeth, eat, etc. Prepare lunch/dinner & help her eat. Administer AM /midday medications. Help her make appointments as necessary if she requests assistance, conduct internet research, check Facebook, etc.
Light housekeeping:
keep kitchen and her bedroom clean, keep guest bedroom clean that PCA's use, vacuum daily, do some laundry, and wash/clean whatever was used during day, in kitchen or front room cups/plates, etc. Drive her to do what she prefers / needs to do: errands, pick-up prescriptions, go to grocery stores, out to lunch, get out and about in San Diego--go have FUN. Genuinely care about her, be her friend. For every part of this job, the Personal Care Assistant (PCA) will be trained extensively until comfortable with all responsibilities. Will only observe first day, then begin actually doing /practicing different parts of the position with assistance until ready to take over on your own. Her mother will be in the area for a few weeks to train how the PCA can be most effective, and teach all the best practices developed with this young woman.

Once all documentation (driver's license/driving record, Soc. Security card and passport or birth certificate are provided for the FBI background check completed by Aveanna, and approval is secured, (Aveanna serves as the third-party administrator) then training can begin. This is a special young woman who is very intelligent, driven/determined/focused, loves to laugh, cares about others, and is remarkable in how she continues to achieve, overcoming huge obstacles all along the way.
