Currently looking for two dependable, confident overnight caregivers for my 18-year-old son in our Cedar Rapids-area home.

Available nights:

Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday I am looking to build a small, reliable care team. Applicants may work some or all of the available nights, although I am primarily looking for two people who can each commit to a consistent weekly schedule. Starting pay is $20/hour, with an opportunity for an increase after the first month based on reliability, performance, and ability to independently provide his care. Paid training is provided. My son has a neuromuscular disability, uses a wheelchair and ventilator, and needs hands-on assistance throughout the night. He is an intelligent young adult who communicates and knows exactly what he needs. You do NOT need to be a nurse. I am willing to thoroughly train the right person. CNA, DSP, home-health, nursing student, medical or disability-care experience is certainly a plus, but I am primarily looking for someone who is dependable, calm, attentive, confident and willing to learn.

Care includes things such as:

Repositioning and assisting him during the night Suctioning and ventilator-related care after training Personal care G-tube-related care as needed Transfers using a ceiling lift Monitoring him and responding when he needs assistance Please don't let the ventilator or medical equipment intimidate you. You will be trained and will not be expected to know his care on day one. What matters is being willing to learn and becoming comfortable and confident with his routine. Reliability is extremely important. My son requires continuous care, so when someone is scheduled for a shift, we truly depend on that person being here. I am looking for someone who will treat him with dignity, speak directly to him, learn his personality and preferences, and hopefully become a consistent part of his care team.
