GT Independence FMCS About the Individual We are seeking a dependable, patient, and engaging Direct Support Professional to support a friendly young adult in his home and community. The individual is a quick learner who enjoys music, computers, movies, shopping, bowling, and visiting parks. He taught himself to play the piano and enjoys creating his own beats. The individual appreciates having choices, being heard, and spending time doing activities he enjoys. He is most comfortable with familiar people, clear communication, and a predictable routine. He learns best through modeling, visual supports, and step-by-step instructions. The ideal candidate will be someone who respects the individual's individuality, encourages independence, and enjoys helping him stay active and engaged throughout the day. Position Overview The Direct Support Professional will provide individualized support and supervision Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Responsibilities include assisting the individual with daily routines, supporting safe community participation, providing minor behavioral redirection, and helping him access virtual appointments. The goal is to promote the individual's independence, personal safety, communication, and participation in meaningful activities while ensuring he receives consistent, reliable support. Key Responsibilities Supervision & Daily Support Provide consistent supervision and individualized support throughout the scheduled shift. Assist the individual with morning routines, personal care, and activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed. Provide verbal prompts, modeling, and step-by-step guidance to help the individual complete daily tasks and increase independence. Support the individual with maintaining a structured daily routine while allowing flexibility and opportunities to make choices. Assist with meal preparation and promote safe eating habits, including reminders to slow down, chew thoroughly, and avoid overfilling his mouth. Provide appropriate supervision during transfers, walking, and other activities to promote safety and reduce the risk of falls. Community Integration & Transportation Support the individual with accessing his community and participating in activities of his choice. Identify and explore meaningful activities, recreational opportunities, and community resources that align with his interests. Assist the individual with planning outings, maintaining a schedule, and identifying places he would enjoy visiting. Provide transportation and supervision during community outings. Support the individual with shopping, including making shopping lists, locating items, and completing purchases with appropriate guidance. Encourage participation in activities such as bowling, visiting thrift stores, going to parks, shopping, and exploring new recreational opportunities. Promote community safety, situational awareness, and appropriate interactions with others. Behavioral Support & Communication Use clear, direct language and allow the individual adequate time to process information and respond. Provide choices, positive reinforcement, redirection, and calm reassurance when needed. Recognize signs of frustration, communication difficulties, or sensory sensitivities and respond with patience and appropriate support. Assist the individual with using positive coping strategies and communicating his wants, needs, and feelings. Respect the individual's need for personal space and avoid lengthy or overwhelming explanations. Communicate significant behavioral concerns, changes, or incidents to his natural supports and appropriate team members. Follow applicable behavioral support guidance and individualized strategies communicated by the team. Virtual Appointments & Health-Related Support Assist the individual with accessing and attending scheduled virtual appointments, including helping him use his phone or computer as needed. Provide reminders about appointments and assist with preparing for virtual meetings. Help the individual communicate his needs during appointments when appropriate. Observe and communicate any notable changes in the individual's health, mood, behavior, or overall functioning to his natural supports. Follow established support instructions related to the individual's health, safety, and daily routines. Job Requirements Applicants must meet the following requirements:

CPR & First Aid:

Hold current in-person CPR and First Aid certifications or have the ability to obtain both certifications prior to the start of employment.

Driver's License:

Possess a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record.

Auto Insurance:

Maintain current auto insurance.

Background Check:

Be able to successfully pass a background check.

Working Cell Phone:

Have a working cell phone available for recording and documenting shifts as required. Ideal Candidate Qualifications The ideal candidate will: Be reliable, punctual, patient, and compassionate. Have experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, autism, or behavioral support needs (preferred). Be comfortable providing supervision, personal care assistance, and community-based support. Have a calm, respectful approach to behavioral redirection and communication challenges. Be comfortable driving and providing transportation for community activities. Be able to follow individualized support instructions and communicate effectively with family members and the support team. Be willing to encourage independence while providing the level of supervision and assistance the individual needs. Be comfortable assisting with technology for virtual appointments and daily activities. Be able to maintain a consistent weekday schedule. What Makes This Opportunity Special?
